Inside CA Intermediate: The Power Stage of Your CA Journey!
Immediately post your foundation, your next step of your CA journey is your CA Intermediate. This is considered as the real phase of CA course. This level will give you an exposure to various new subjects which you practically apply in your professional journey. Let’s unlock the syllabus of CA Intermediate.

There are 6 subjects in total namely Advanced Accounting, Corporate and other Laws, Direct and Indirect Taxation, Cost and Management Accounting, Auditing and Ethics and at last Financial and Strategic Management.
Mark structure of all the 6 subjects:
It’s a 70-30 in CA Intermediate. That means for 70 marks it will be descriptive and for balance 30 marks it will be multiple choice questions.Guess what? No negative markings for these 30 marks just like CA Foundation. And the fortunate thing is that this MCQ will boost up your overall marks in that subject which in turn results in your push of your overall aggregate.
What’s your overall aggregate refers to ?
You have in total 6 subjects and each you will need to write for 100 marks and the breakup of the same is mentioned above. So in total 600 marks of which you need to score 300 minimum to get through this CA Intermediate. In each subject you need to get 40 minimum and in aggregate you need to have 300 out of 600 if you are writing both groups together at the same time. But if you are writing one group separately, then you need to score 40 minimum in all the 3 subjects and in aggregate you need to obtain 150 out of 300.
An overview of all the 6 subjects:
Your advanced accounting mainly deals with the standards(basically principles) that govern and help to prepare financial statements and for accounting treatment of various financial line items.
Next is corporate and other laws. This mainly deals with all the relevant and necessary laws and regulations for a company to be incorporated and for a company which is already incorporated.
Next is your Taxation paper. It is split into two parts.One is Income Tax and the other one is GST(Goods and Services Tax). Income tax deals with taxability of one’s income and its rules. GST deals with principles of taxation of goods and services.
The fourth one is Cost and Management Accounting which mainly deals with principles of determination, control of costs of various products/services.
The fifth one is being Auditing and Ethics. This mainly deals with the principles which will be applied when practically examining the numbers of financial statements and it’s a pure theoretical but practical subject.
Last one is your Financial Management and Strategic Management. Financial Management deals with theories of finance and ways of management of finance and Strategic Management deals with Business Ideologies, Business models, Ways to run a business etc which is more theoretical yet a practical subject.
